Ogun State Government has identified 33 public schools to pilot its modern teaching equipment and infrastructure programme in the state. The state Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said this at the 2020-2021 annual quiz competition sponsored by SG Holdings Foundation in Abeokuta. Arigbabu explained that the initiative was to provide world-class teaching aids and Infrastructures for the schools so they could compete with foreign schools.
The commissioner did not mention the teaching aids to be procured and schools to benefit from the first phase of the initiative.
He further stated that the project would be the second intervention programme which the state governor, Dapo Abiodun- led administration planned to carry out in public schools. He added, that this would be after renovation work on dilapidated classes in 956 schools are completed across the state.
He said, “Other public schools in the state will be considered under the initiative ones we are through with the 33 schools we plan to start with. “The idea is to ensure most of them competes well with their counterparts in private primary and secondary schools and even foreign schools. “We also love and support competitions like this in Ogun state and that is why we have decided to always pay all expenses necessary for any of our student to take part in a competition like this.”
The Chief Executive Officer of the SG Holdings, Deji Somoye noted that the quiz competition was to improve the teaching of science and technology in schools.
