Old students decry poor funding of sector, donate e-library to alma mater

Old students of Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State have decried the poor funding of education in Nigeria as they donated a modern e-library to the college to celebrate 36 years anniversary of the association.
The graduating 1985 set of the college, while donating a modern e-library comprising 10 desktop computers with all the accessories; Wilan and Wifi connectivity; repairs of 22kva Lister generator; two years data subscription for the use of students and recruitment of ICT teachers to the college, lamented poor funding of the sector by successive governments.

The coordinator, Mr. Nkereuwem Inyang explained that the gesture was aimed at advancing activities in their Alma Mata, stressing that in the 21st-century world, there is a need to expose students to the use of ICT.

“I know how things are in Nigeria today. Funding for education is poor; students don’t have much to do. This is an aspect I thought about and felt we could assist them in learning and knowledge acquisition. We are in a digital age and students need to study and become great in society,” Inyang stated.
Another coordinator, Mr. Nicholas Agbo harped on infrastructural development in schools to aid learning.

Agbo said the donation was part of efforts to give back to their alma mater. “We also chose the e-library because it is the knowledge and research-based in any academic environment, which can greatly impact the vision of our young students. The project is also informed by the current reality of things where the world is shifting to ICT and virtual learning. This is to help the new generation develop more on science and technology to boost the pace of growth in the country.
