Edo Poly introduces innovation to benefit host community

In a bid to deepen the exchange between academics and society, the Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has introduced a Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Abiodun Falodun said, the centre which is located in Benin City is aimed at bringing the expertise of the school and its offerings for use to the larger society.

He said “We have developed a number of solutions and are innovating ways of solving society’s problems, especially the immediate community and we want to bring these ideas and tools closer to the people. This is why the centre is located in Benin City.”

He noted that the centre would be engaged in capacity building and technology transfer programmes with experts pooled from highly experienced researchers and technologists from the polytechnic to solve problems in areas such as communication and media, pharmaceutical technology, surveying and geoinformatics, public administration and accounting, renewable energy, urban planning and environmental sustainability, among others.

“We have well-trained professionals who are willing to train people on some of these thematic areas and are hopeful that the synergy will provide solutions to issues facing the communities that we intend to service,” he added.
