Stakeholders task freshers on hardwork

It was an inspirational atmosphere at the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) as speakers’ and academics took turns to counsel new students on the need to focus on their studies and shun vices.

The event was an orientation programme by the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), UNILORIN chapter, aimed at fresh students with the required information, mindset, and admonition to achieve academic excellence, while in the university.

In attendance were the former Dean, faculty of arts, Prof. A.A. Adeoye; chairman, ASUU-UNILORIN, Dr Alex Akanmu and sub-dean, college of health sciences, Dr Oyabambi, students’ union president, Hauwa Usman, author, Oladosu Amos, and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10 advocate, Helen Animashaun.

In his opening remarks, Adeoye urged the students to remain focused and also put in more efforts to ensure that they achieve academic excellence.

Former Special Adviser in Osun State and Publisher of NPO Reports, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, enjoined the students to be serious and resist distractions that may hinder them from achieving their goals.

He reminded them that they are in school for a purpose and should shun negative vices.

“Have your eyes on the ball and do not entertain any form of distractions capable of affecting your academic performance. Those of you who are the leaders of the association, I want to congratulate you for even volunteering to be a part of this effort, it is a noble thing to offer yourself for leadership positions,” Okanlawon said.
